With the most beautiful voice a bird ever beheld, the Canary bewitched everything and everyone in her Master's path, granting him riches and eternal glory.
Knowing that as long as he had the Canary things would always go his way, the Master decided to keep the Canary out of other's sight. He kept her at the highest tower of his castle, surrounded by everything best he could find, exotic food, fancy entertainment; within a beautiful cage, made by pure gold.
He would spend his mornings with her, to sing together enchanting songs; and he'll be back the day after with more delightful things she can indulge upon.
But the Canary is not happy.
One day, a Black Cat trudge upon the tower grounds.
Hearing such a lovely voice, he sneaked around to find it; till he decided that the voice must be coming from beyond the ground. After spying for the highest tree, he climbed- to find himself located just before the window of the tower's chamber. And there; he found the Canary with its beautiful voice, sitting inside her golden cage.
He tried meow-ing for attention.
The Canary looked at him, then turned away without a word.
The Cat wrinkled his nose in distaste. ".. How rude!" he thought.
But as rude as she was, she's still one beautiful Canary, and as soon as she sung, every coherent thought flew away from the Cat's mind.
"..her voice is so pretty! I bet her heart must be pretty too, rude or no rude." the Cat decided. He took a step nearer to the window and meow-ed once again.
"Pretty Canary, what a voice you have there! I surrendered to its unearthly beauty, so I will!" He beamed.
At that, the Canary turned and looks at the Cat with questioning glance.
"What?" said the Cat- "You like me?" he grinned- snarled, to be exact- with his fangs extended.
The Canary kept silent.
The Cat accepted the silence as approval; then proceeded to blab away about many things he'd seen, ate, and known.
The Canary kept silent all the way.
Day by day, the Cat came and go; the Canary, while kept silent, started to look at him with solemn - if not kind - eye.
One day, the Cat suddenly asked the Canary about something she'd like to have.
"For I've always enjoyed your beautiful voice without giving anything to you in return!" he said, "So what do you want?"
After a brief moment, the Canary sighed and turned away; the Cat followed her sight and found her looking at the sky, vast and blue.
The next day, the Canary fell sick.
It barely moved and didn't sing. Her Master was worried to death.
Every day the Master got her any other remedy he could find, but still the Canary didn't budge.
One day, exasperated, the Master throw away his bowl of remedy to her face and barked harshly;
"I've given you everything this world have; why won't you sing for me!?" He then stomped away.
In the silence, the Canary starts to heave stuttering breath, trying hard to bring herself up. With glassy eyes, she looked upon the same door her Master had just left from, then turned to the windowsill, where the Cat had just jumped. Grinning wildly, he tried to hug the golden cage, but suddenly the door opened; and the Master took sight of him.
"What are you doing! Bad Cat!!"
He threw his sandal, and it hit the Cat squarely. So he fell, bringing the gold cage with him. Inside, the Canary watched him, eyes opening with horror. The wind blew up, ruffling their furs and feathers; giving them the impression of flying.
"Now I, will give you the gift that you want the most." whispers the Cat.
He flicked the cage's door open.
A long shout can be heard from atop of the tower when the cage hit the ground, hard.
CRASH.
